Craft Workshops

We welcome you to our new holiday craft workshop series! Every week until the end of the year, join us at the Mokupāpapa Discovery Center in historic Hilo Town to learn Hawaiian traditional arts and crafts.

Gyotaku (fish impression)

Gyotaku (Japanese, from gyo “fish” + taku “stone impression”) is the traditional Japanese method of creating an art print using fish. We will be using rubber fish models, and will also share fun facts about fish in general, fish anatomy, and fish species.$10 per class, materials included. One and a half hour workshop. Limited space available, so reserve early.

Koa Fish Hook

Join us for a fun night of making your own koa wood traditional Hawaiian fish hook necklace. $20 per class, materials included. 2-hour workshop. Limited space available, so reserve early.
